Church of Scotland gets new minister
A FORMER Chaplain General to the British Army has begun his new job as the Church of Scotland’s minister.
The Rev. Dr David Coulter was inducted on Wednesday evening at a ceremony at St Andrew’s in the Grange, St Peter Port.
He will take his first Sunday service at the church tomorrow morning.
Belfast-born Dr Coulter, 61, has been in the ministry of the Church of Scotland for 30 years and, for most of that time, he has served as a military chaplain, including operational tours to Iraq and Afghanistan.
From 2014 to 2018 he served as Chaplain General to Her Majesty’s Land Forces, making him the senior chaplain in the British Army.
Dr Coulter said he first came to Guernsey many years ago on a short visit and fell in love with the island immediately.
‘We felt called to come here and it feels like home already,’ he said.
At his induction, Dr Coulter also paid tribute to his predecessor, the Rev. Alistair Cumming, who has acted as locum minister at the Grange church for the last 22 months.
Among those attending Dr Coulter’s service of induction was the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, the Right Rev. Susan Brown, who was on an official visit to the island. Also present were Dr Coulter’s wife Grace and his sons, Andrew and Tom.
