During his comments on proposals from the States’ Assembly and Constitution Committee for the 2020 election, he said he could not believe the situation.
‘I have to pinch myself to recollect that we have done such a stupid thing,’ he said about island-wide voting.
‘We have done something so spectacularly dumb, somebody just has to say it.’
How could the ‘tremendous’ ballot paper be checked, he wondered, and with the chance of many surnames being similar he said the margin of error would increase.
However, he knew one name that would not be on the ballot.
‘Brehaut won’t be on any list of candidates at the next election, incidentally. At least not this Brehaut.’
Deputy Brehaut has been a States deputy for St Peter Port South since 2004.
