The island bought the 70-seater catamaran Isle of Herm in the spring this year but CEO Craig Senior said when it was offered the smaller boat it thought it a good idea to have the back up.
‘It provides us with an option if the Isle of Herm has any problems,’ he said.
‘It’s a boat that’s had a lot of experience going through more challenging waters that the Travel Trident or the Isle of Herm.’
The monohull has acted as a ferry between Guernsey and Brecqhou for many years and Mr Senior said it is capable of carrying about 40 passengers.
‘Maybe we’ll use it for corporate events in the winter, or maybe we’ll use it more for staff,’ he said.
He expected the boat to be ready for use within a couple of weeks. ‘It basically needs an “MOT”.’
It will also be used to augment the island’s own cargo ship, which itself is currently undergoing work.
n Travel Trident has now stopped operating ferries to Herm for the winter, amid claims by the company’s management that Herm Island had become ‘commercially aggressive’. Mr Senior previously said that he would be happy to discuss matters with the company but had been rejected.
