Hautes Capelles gets new equipment thanks to PTA

YOGA mats, iPads and worry dolls were among the school equipment bought with money raised from about five years of Hautes Capelles PTA events.

Each year group was given £2,000 to buy what they needed.

‘It’s stuff we would never have thought of,’ said PTA chairwoman Jayne Limond.

She explained money had been raised at events including school discos, an Oaty and Joey’s evening and raffles, and she thanked the volunteers who had made this possible.

‘Without them all giving up their time, this wouldn’t be possible,’ she said.

The purchases also included three pagodas, which PTA treasurer Jean-Pierre Bourgaize thought they would be used well.

‘The kids love outside spaces to sit and play,’ he said.

The response from the children had been very positive, he said.

‘If I had stuff like this when I was there, I would have enjoyed school so much more.’

PTA secretary Chantal Quinn said the equipment would also aid learning.

‘The teachers had an input of what to get for each year group to support learning and benefit the children.’

Maddie Quinn, 10, was happy to see lots of books had been ordered.

‘I’m probably most excited about the books because I like reading a lot,’ she said.

Nine-year-old Izzi Quinn agreed – and looked forward to using the pagodas.

‘I think they are really nice,’ she said.

Atticus Bourgaize, four, added: ‘I’m most excited about the basketball hoops.’

A wooden work bench with real tools was a favourite purchase for Year 1 teacher Nicky Bourne.

‘We’ll teach them how to use things safely and how to hammer nails in and saw bits of wood,’ she said.

‘There are other bits to enhance our outdoor learning area and outdoor provision – there is a mud kitchen, and a stage performance area is on the way.’

Mr Bourgaize said 32 Chromebooks were also on order, with more items yet to arrive.

‘We would like to keep the momentum going,’ he added.
