But organisers of the final Cobo Bay Hotel balcony gig of the summer have reassured fans that the event will go ahead as planned this Sunday.

The works, located just ahead of the filter when heading towards Vazon, were prompted by a rapidly expanding hole in the road surface.

To allow investigations to take place, an emergency one-way system was introduced southbound yesterday.

Jack Stevenson from Geomarine said the company had been monitoring the depression this week.

‘It started off as 100 millimetres square on Monday, and now it’s about a metre square,’ he said.

‘We’re carrying out exploratory works to understand what’s causing it. It’s likely water erosion beneath the surface.’

Despite the disruption, Mr Stevenson confirmed the site will be made safe and cleared before tomorrow’s gig.

‘It won’t be tarmacked until Tuesday, but we’ll fill it with sand and cover it securely so no one stands on it,’ he said.

‘All barriers and gear will be gone before Sunday.’

Jamie Nussbaumer, director of Nuttree Ltd and Cobo Bay Hotel, expressed confidence in the plan for the work.

‘It sounds like it’s under control. We expect everything to be sorted and access maintained. It’s a minor inconvenience, but manageable.’

Excitement is building for the final performance, featuring a Dolly Parton

tribute act that previously drew a packed crowd.

‘It’s a complete sell-out again,’ Mr Nussbaumer said.

‘The forecast looks great, and it’s set to be a brilliant end to the summer.’

This is the last balcony gig of the summer and runs from 3pm. The hotel sells a combined lunch and gig ticket, but many more people also watch the music from the road and beach.
