A three-mile diversion is due to come into effect on Monday and last until Friday 26 September to allow resurfacing work to take place.
Businesses in the area have already said that the impact will have serious consequences for them and Occupation Museum owner Richard Heaume said it will be the same for him.
‘It will cost me an arm and a leg,’ he said.
‘If they don’t include me in their diversion signs I shall be taking legal action.’
Mr Heaume was a Forest parish constable in the mid-1970s and said at that time the parish had the authority to approve its road closures, and it was a shame that this was not still the case.
‘There’s an unwritten rule that you don’t close roads twice in a year nor in the tourist season,’ he said.
‘I’m very annoyed about it. They shouldn’t be doing this.’
A Traffic & Highway Services spokesman said that the Occupation Museum would be mentioned on information boards alongside other businesses and places of interest when the junction by the Forest Church is closed during the work.
‘For the first part of the work, signage will predominantly refer to access to the airport (as a major travel hub) and all businesses and attractions by following the diversion and also information such as “access as far as” when travelling through the closed area,’ he said.
‘When the junction by Forest Church is closed to allow for resurfacing and accessibility improvements, information boards will be placed at both ends of La Rue du Mont Marche.
‘These will advise about access to the Occupation Museum and other business/places of interest to the south of the roadworks.
‘There are a significant number of businesses, schools, organisations and attractions along with the airport that will be impacted by the work and we are grateful for their co-operation ahead of and during the works.’
When the roadworks start, the airport will be accessible from the west, with a diversion running to the north of the airport past Specsavers.
