A total of 18 teams have already signed up for a seven-a-side event at Victoria Park and organisers are hoping for lots of supporters to turn up and cheer on their favourites. There is still room for more teams to enter, with the fee being £500 per team, and they will receive a charity tee shirt in their team’s colours.
All proceeds from the event will be split between Bowel Cancer Guernsey and Business Beats Cancer.
Entry for spectators on the day is free, and as well as the action on the pitch there will be family-friendly activities, including an inflatable football pitch, Bowel Cancer Guernsey’s inflatable bowel, a game of ‘Throw the Poo’, and a kids’ kick-about.
Food and refreshments will be provided by Nutmeg, and there will also be a tuck shop in the plaza, with proceeds going to the charities.
Bowel Cancer Guernsey chairwoman Anne Brouard said it was thrilled to be involved in Victoria Park’s first charity tournament. ‘Being active to stay healthy is one of our key charity messages, so it’s a perfect fit,’ she said.
‘We’re also looking forward to welcoming some of our younger islanders to enjoy the games and activities taking place on the outer areas – it should be a brilliant day for all the family.’
Business Beats Cancer’s Neale Jehan said the charity had been keen to host an event such as this for some time. ‘Our charities are both committed to raising awareness and funds for the same cause, so if we can do that by uniting islanders for some healthy competition, it’s a win-win.’
Gates open at 9.15 and kick-off is at 10.30. For more information or to sign up, email info@victoriapark.gg.
