A statement from the Le Page family said that after 'many wonderful years', the family-run business would close permanently on Sunday 19 October.
‘The shop has been in our family for generations, first run by our great-gran, then by our grandad, Ralph Le Page, from 1997 onwards,’ the family said in an online statement.
‘It’s been a true family business and a huge part of our lives, filled with friendship, laughter, and community spirit. We want to thank everyone who’s supported us over the years, our customers, staff, and neighbours. Your loyalty and kindness have meant everything.’
Centre owner Ralph Le Page died in May this year, and the family paid tribute to him.
‘We all miss Ralph so much,’ they said.
‘Though it’s time to close this chapter, the memories will always stay with us.’
The shop has also reduced its opening hours and is only open until 1pm from Monday to Thursdays. It is open 9am to 5pm Fridays to Sundays.
Many people have been expressing their support for the business and sharing their memories in response to the store’s social media post.
‘Cobo Village Centre has been more than a shop, it is a community made by the Le Page family and their staff,’ one person wrote.
‘It will never disappear, as it will be remembered by all its customers.’
Staff did not want to comment on whether another retail outlet will take on the premises after the store closes, and the future of the site is unclear.
