Police investigating unexplained death in St Peter Port

Police are investigating an unexplained death in St Peter Port, that may have occurred in suspicious circumstances.

A spokesman said that officers went to carry out a welfare check early this afternoon at Flat 17, Tudor Apartments, Mill Street, and found the body of a man inside of the property.

‘Enquiries are now under way and detectives are currently working on the basis this was a 53-year-old man,’ he said. ‘A crime scene cordon is now in place and specialist officers are carrying out examination of the property.’

A number of police cars and scene of crime vehicles were parked at the top of Mill Street, close to furniture shop Loop, from around noon. By 4.30pm the area was clear and there was no evidence of the cordon that was in place earlier.

It is understood that at this stage of the investigation the officers are not ruling out any possibilities of how the death occurred.
