The switch to the Guernsey Customs and Immigration Service will take place from 1 January.

‘The change is being made due to the evolution of the way the organisation operates, mainly because of Brexit and the changes this has brought to the customs and immigration regimes,’ said a spokesman.

‘These changes have also affected the way the organisation is viewed on a national and international stage, and it is important the organisation is now recognised as a customs and immigration service with a clear identity when interacting with counterparts internationally. The previous name did not always achieve this.’

The service became the Border Agency when it took on some responsibilities for cross-border crime.

The spokesman added that the service would continue as normal with ‘no significant ramifications’.

He added that the cost of the rebrand would be ‘extremely minimal, if not nothing’.

In response to public comment on social media, the service said that all its signage needed replacing due to its age, and that would be the main piece of work required. A new emblem had been designed in-house and uniforms will not change.
