Marine Spatial Plan survey closes tomorrow

Tomorrow is the deadline for islanders to have their say on what Guernsey’s seas mean to them.

Data from the Marine Spatial Plan survey will set out a long-term vision for how the island’s territorial waters could be used.

Data from the Marine Spatial Plan survey will set out a long-term vision for how the island’s territorial waters could be used and help guide decisions about activities at sea, such as fishing, biodiversity, recreation, renewable energy, harbour improvements and sustainable tourism.

‘The views we have heard from users of our marine environment so far have been interesting and invaluable in painting a picture of how our seas are currently being used, how those uses interact with each other, and what ambitions there are for the future,’ said Environment & Infrastructure president Adrian Gabriel.

‘We’ve heard about opportunities for renewable energy, important areas for fishing, the need for harbour infrastructure, environmental concerns and the use of the coast for sporting activities.

‘We’d really encourage anyone else with a vested interest in how our local waters are used to complete the online survey.’

The views, knowledge and experience provided in the survey will be used to inform a first draft of the Marine Spatial Plan. The draft plan will then be published for people to provide further comments before finalisation.
