Local and visiting families enjoyed walking around the trail, which marked its 23rd year.
‘We come every year,’ said Charlotte Robert.
‘It gets you out in the fresh air, and it’s one of those things that we always end up doing. We like to see the topical ones.’
Lois Sobey, 5, and sister Tali, 8, were over on holiday from Bristol with their family, and said they enjoyed spotting all of the scarecrows on the trail.
‘It’s hard to pick, but I really like the Paw Patrol one,’ said Lois.
‘If I had to choose I would pick the Duckling Express one,’ added Tali.
Taylor’s Duckling Express was also the favourite of head judge Les Britzman, the island’s chief fire officer, who awarded the Taylor family’s entry first place.
The Fat Rock by Pat Matthews and Peter O’Donovan came second, with the GSPCA’s Hay Look What We’ve Achieved – inspired by head of marine mammals Geoff George – taking third place.
Nikki Addlesee won the most traditional category with her Back To Basics scarecrow.
Bash the Donkey, by Heidi, Zabel, John and Francesca won the prize for topical entry, while Flattened by SunScarecrow – Squashed! from the Guernsey Cheshire Home was considered to be the funniest.
The prize for groups and businesses in Torteval was won by The Peace Tent with its GST – standing for General Scarecrow Tax – entry, and outside of the parish, the Chateau du Village care home won with Chateau du Village in Bloom.
Le Murier won the senior schools prize and the reception year group at La Mare de Carteret Primary School won the primary schools prize.
