From noon they will be walking as many laps as possible around Footes Lane to raise money for The Village at Le Murier School.

The company has hosted a 24-hour challenge before which was successful, and wanted to do another 24-hour event including a ‘challenge’ element, but one that could be more inclusive.

‘We decided to use the Footes Lane track as the location so we could include children and parents as well as people from the office, it’s secure and it’s easy for people to walk, run, crawl as many laps as possible,’ said Deloitte partner David Becker.

‘We’re also having a bit of an event in the evening so people can come down for a barbecue and there will be some live music and the bar will be open at the rugby club.

‘We want to have a nice family-feel event in the evening and then the challenge will continue through the night until 12 o’clock the next day. We hope it will be a really nice day for everyone.’

He expected there would be a handful of people walking throughout the night, but hoped for good participation throughout the day.

In previous challenges, some people have committed to the full 24 hours.

‘People can really adapt this challenge to their fitness levels,’ said Mr Becker.

‘They can come in and do a couple hours and pop back later, or stay and do a longer stint, this way it’s a bit more inclusive.’

Students from Le Murier will be joining in and completing laps this afternoon, and the firm is matching every £1 raised up to £5,000.

Food, drinks and live music will be available after 5pm.
