Historical displays, performances from traditional dance and music acts and beanjar were all on offer at the annual event, which has now been going for 56 years.

Chairwoman of the organising committee Sara-Jane Lampitt said she was pleased with how the event had gone.

‘It’s looking very promising, we have lots of people coming through the gates still,’ she said as proceedings got under way yesterday.

‘At the beginning of this event Guernsey still had a market place so it was very easy to replicate, but now we haven’t had a market place for decades, so its even more poignant to have events like this that are traditional, as well as the events we see more regularly.’
