Staff will work their contracted hours only, with no additional activity carried out other than those contracted, such as overtime.
It is understood staff are claiming that they are being ‘overworked’, which is having an impact on themselves and the prisoners.
Director of operations for justice and regulation Dave Le Ray said that there would have to be ‘unavoidable but necessary’ temporary changes for the next week at Les Nicolles Prison.
‘Plans are in place to ensure the continued safe delivery of prison services, however some changes are required to the weekday regime as a result, which will align to that ordinarily in place at weekends,’ he said.
‘Some activities for prisoners have been moved or cancelled and visitation has been moved to the afternoon at 3pm. Prisoners will also be confined to their cells at an earlier time on weekdays this week, equivalent to that which is standard practice for weekends.’
The States said that discussions with the Union and its members will continue this week to seek to address concerns.
