The Venerable Matthew Trick is set to succeed the Very Reverend Tim Barker, who has held the Bailiwick’s top Anglican role since 2015.
He has also been appointed Vicar of St Peter’s Church in Sark.
Mr Trick was ordained as deacon in 2008 and priest in 2009, having previously worked as a bank manager.
His church career has included working as Deanery youth officer in the Vale of Glamorgan, Priest in Charge in the Diocese of Ely and incumbent vicar in the Parish of Ringwood. He also acted as locum priest in Alderney during the summers of 2023 and 2024.
He will be moving with his wife, Sarah, and their two children, Isabelle, 11, and Henry, 7, from Derby, where he has served as Archdeacon of Derby City and South Derbyshire and Residentiary Canon of Derby Cathedral since 2022.
‘My family and I already know and love the islands through our time on Alderney and visits across the Bailiwick,’ said Mr Trick.
‘I am committed to serving the whole Bailiwick, listening well, building relationships and supporting the mission and ministry of the Church in every island community.’
The family will move to the Bailiwick in late August, ahead of him taking up the role in late September.
He will be officially installed as Dean at a ceremony in September.
Applicants for the position were interviewed by the Lt-Governor, Lt General Sir Richard Cripwell, along with the Dean of Jersey and senior clergy and officers of the Bailiwick, with the chosen candidate then referred to the King for approval.
‘I am looking forward to welcoming Matthew to the Bailiwick. Having previously spent time in Alderney he already knows what a special place the Bailiwick is and how important the role of the church is within it,’ said the Lt-Governor.
