Out of 2,000 international entries submitted, Mrs Guille has had two of her six entries accepted. Each entry was judged by 10 judges and required at least seven votes to get in.
‘I was quite emotional when I found out, I shed a tear even though I was delighted,’ she said.
‘I have applied previously but haven’t been accepted, as they need to be shown that the artist has a dedication to a genre and style, meaning that they need to submit year after year to get their work in.’
The exhibition feature pieces from various artists which celebrate the sea. The common theme is the sea but work may vary from deep water shipping to coastal scenes and marine life.
The two pieces selected feature local fishermen at work.
‘I tried to capture the heart of the fishing industry, their work is very important and with the current way of the world, with global warming, it’s more important than ever to show what they do.’
Mrs Guille said that the exhibition would help her to realise her goal of having her work recognised more often on a wider stage.
‘I think it’s important to have local artists on international stages. It helps to sell Guernsey, all my titles have Guernsey in them, and it exposes artists to others.
‘Being an artist is like being on a rollercoaster in my opinion, there are lots of ups and downs, but you have to be brave and keep on going. I wouldn’t change it for the world.’
