THE GSPCA’s annual dog show proved one of the busiest attractions at this year’s South Show.

However with the sun still strong at the tail end the latest heatwave of the summer, special measures were put in place for the safety of the animals.

Thirteen dogs were involved across six classes.

‘With the warm weather, we’ve reduced the classes because we didn’t want people and the dogs out too long in the heat, and we have extra bowls of water out,’ said GSPCA manager Steve Byrne.

‘We usually get a really nice number who enter. This is probably the busiest I’ve seen it since doing the South Show. There seems to be a lot more stalls this year, which is nice, and there’s more entertainment this year.’

There were performances in the field by Guernsey Bubbles and Guernsey Majorettes.

Some people took a moment in the shade outside the front of St Martin’s Community Centre to listen to live music from the Guernsey Jazz Orchestra, Guernsey Brass Band and the Filipino Sacred Singing Group.

This year, the GSPCA teamed up with Guide Dogs to run the dog show.

‘The South Show is really lovely when the weather is like this, it’s a lovely family event,’ said Mr Byrne.

‘It’s technically our parish show because we’re based in St Andrew’s, so it’s nice to support them, have a nice day out, see some lovely dogs and promote our work.’

The GSPCA has raised more than half of the funds for the build but is still appealing for support so the new site can be opened next year.
