Despite windy conditions today, organisers and volunteers have managed to erect stages and bars but a decision was made late in the afternoon, with 25mph winds forecast for tomorrow evening, that it was not safe to stage the festival.
Sunday’s forecast is for winds west to south-west, increasing into the evening at fresh force 5 to strong force 6.
‘The wind has been a serious issue for us,’ said lead organiser Rob Roussel.
‘The stages and bars have had to come down today due to the winds and they’re supposed to get up again tomorrow evening and we felt it was just too unsafe.’
Mr Roussel was leading efforts to find an alternative venue at 6pm but admitted that timescales were very tight.
Cancellations of ferries today meant that several visiting bands were unable to make it to the island but alternative acts had been found.
‘We can replace bands,’ said Mr Roussel. ‘A venue is not so easy to replace.’
The event was first held at Vale Castle in the summer of 1976 and this year was marking a notable anniversary.
