Wright and Cornford the new partnership for Guernsey cricket

ASHLEY WRIGHT, the elder brother of the England one-day international all-rounder Luke, is Guernsey's new 'head of cricket'.

The 35-year-old former first-class player succeeds Nic Pothas, who has moved to a new role with county side Leicestershire after a highly-successful three-year stint with Guernsey.

Subject to local formalities being concluded, Wright will start the job in January and assisting him will be an old face at senior island level, Andy Cornford, who returns to the fold as performance director.

'I am both honoured and excited to get the chance to work with Guernsey Cricket,' Wright said.

Cornford added: 'I'm absolutely delighted to be back involved with Guernsey Cricket – I've missed it.

'I've been away for three years but kept in touch with how things have progressed under Nic Pothas during that time.

'With Ash Wright coming in as head of cricket, I think he and I can make a real difference and help further develop both the national team and the standards of our younger players.'
