After the disappointment of not winning the title last year for the first time in 23 years, England's men bounced back in Warsaw to beat defending champions France and regain the title, making it another English double along with their triumphant women counterparts.
Both teams had come through their qualifying groups without difficulty and in the semi-finals France beat a German team resting their number one player while England beat Scotland 2.5-0 as Simpson won enough games the third rubber against Greg Lobban to finish the match.
England were missing their number one Nick Matthew, as they were last year, but in the final France were without an injured Mathieu Castagnet, which in theory made England favourites.
Simpson, who had lost the decisive final match in last year's final, got England off to a good start with a straight-games win over Lucas Serme 11-4, 11-1, 11-3.
World champion Gregory Gaultier drew France level as he beat James Willstrop 3-1, but Willstrop's game would prove crucial.
In the third rubber Tom Richards beat Geoffrey Demont in three, establishing an unassailable English lead.
