United dropped points for the second time in the Champions League League phase against Lyon, who beat Marc Skinner’s side 3-0 last Wednesday night at Leigh Sports Village.
The visitors outclassed United and showed why they are record-breaking eight-time Uefa Women’s Champions League winners. They scored an early goal through Tabitha Chawinga before a late brace from Melchie Dumornay sealed the three points.
Manchester United defended arduously throughout the first half before a triple half-time change that introduced Ella Toone, Jess Park and Julia Zigiotti to the pitch and saw Skinner’s side offer much more challenge to their vaunted opponents.
‘I think we did a lot of defending so obviously there’s a lot of things I can still do better, but as a whole I thought I was all right,' Le Tissier said after the game.
‘The game was not too bad, but not amazing. I think as a team we found it better in the second-half, we were better on the ball.'
A top-four finish in the league phase is still a possibility for United if they win against Juventus this week and other results go their way.
United are currently ninth in the table, with at least a play-off place secured.
‘I don’t know how Juventus play. I’ve not seen them play yet, so I think it’s difficult to say, but it will be another hard game against the Italian opposition and another exciting one,’ said Le Tissier.
‘We can definitely take our in-possession performance going into Juventus and tidy up out of possession.’
This is Le Tissier’s first Champions League campaign and she said so far the experience had been special.
‘I love playing Champions League. It’s our first season obviously, so it’s been great.
‘We’ve had some tricky games, but good games as well. Obviously getting nine points on the board has been great and of course we want to win every game,’ she said.
