Raiders survive scare

TITLE winning sides know how to get over the line and, when it comes to the oval-ball game, not just in terms of the try-line.

Raiders have had to dig deep on several occasions so far in this memorable and potentially historic London and South East Premier campaign, and that was certainly the case at the Davey Field on Saturday where Jordan Reynolds’ side sneaked a full house of points on the 3G.

At 22-7 up with little more than 20min. left, it seemed Raiders were home and dry.

But on 67min. Atelea Moa dived in for a converted try and eight minutes later Tuitavuki, another of the home side’s Pacific Islanders, touched down under the posts and Simmons’ conversion brought the home side back to within one of the visitors.

Raiders had five more minutes, plus stoppage time, to hold out, and they did just that to make it 13 wins on the trot and maintain their 11-point lead at the top.

Earlier, Anthony Armstrong, Blair Campbell, Cameron Craine and a penalty try had earned Raiders the bonus point.
