Culverwell sprints to stage win
SAM CULVERWELL proudly topped the podium in the second stage of the European Junior Cycling Tour Assen.
The talented Guernsey junior won the 45k criterium stage in 1hr 1min. 3sec. after taking the sprint from a four-man breakaway that finished well clear of the main pack.
This followed up from a solid fourth place finish in the previous day’s exceedingly close prologue, split-seconds behind recent British national silver medallist Lewis Askey.
And it was bookended by taking fifth in a tough outing yesterday over a cobbled 94k road race as part of a huge bunch sprint where Askey had to be content with 11th.
Culverwell is now third in the general classification and hopes to continue this great form right through to the end of the six-day Netherlands stage race.
