Guernsey followed up their against-the-odds win away to Barnes with their first National Two South home victory on Saturday – a fully deserved 28-3 success over Clifton as the hosts mastered the miserable wet and windy conditions in fine style.

‘Twenty-eight points in horrible conditions is an outstanding performance,’ said coach Jordan Reynolds, who, despite being renowned as a perfectionist, found it hard to pick holes in his side who scored two tries in either half and managed the game expertly playing with the wind in the second half.

‘We have been talking about game-plan, game-plan, game-plan and some of the kicks people [in the crowd] might have been groaning about, but that’s what we wanted to do – we wanted to put them into their half and play it from there.

‘That was the second time now we have kept to the game-plan and we have picked up two wins – it shows how simple it can be.

‘In these conditions it is so difficult, but I thought our handling today was good and our defensive work was outstanding.

‘To get that fourth try at the end, that’s a huge plus for us. These bonus points are going to be massive.’

The tries came via a penalty try for a collapsed maul as well as touchdowns for Layton Batiste, Elia Morisio and Chris Ahne.

Reynolds is pleased that his side are gathering momentum heading to the league leaders Rams next week.

‘Two wins on the bounce now with two bonus points so we are sitting on 13 points, which is quite good,’ he said.

‘We’ve still got to get to around 50 or 60, but we are starting to pick up a little bit of momentum.

‘Really tough game next week against Rams, but we have got to look at it as if we can go away to Rams and give it our best shot.’
