Although de la Mare still awaits the resolution of several other leagues, which are now on hold due to the coronavirus, he has found solace in topping the final GDL standings by some 17 points.

Beating both Tim Cotterill and Rob Davidson 8-2 in the last two match nights was merely the cherry on top.

In the former, he fired away three dart legs of 18 or fewer together with a ton-plus finish, though Cotterill retaliated with a 16-darter and individual 180.

A catch-up fixture against the vastly experienced Davidson saw him repeat this scoreline while also posting a 17-darter and an 180.

Thirteen wins, four draws and not a single loss from 17 matches – a record to be proud of.

With de la Mare’s title receipt settled weeks prior, second and third place enjoyed a good scrap in their final match, even if it did not change the outcome.

The same 8-2 scoreline featured and yet on this occasion, it came through Adam Gontier getting the better of Chris Smith.

Gontier doubled up on 180s and Smith won a leg in 17 darts.

But despite not making his mark on the night, Smith secured second place in the overall standings at six points clear of Gontier.

The remaining three Division One matches contested over the last two league weeks ended in 5-5 draws.

Simon de la Mare hit an impressive 14-dart leg when facing Kevin Brouard and Kyle Hutchinson produced two ton-plus checkouts, including one 130, against Lee Savident as the former star cricketer answered with a 16-darter and 180.

Hutchinson later gave Davidson another challenge and hit a 180 of his own.

Between this and his loss to de la Mare, Davidson came out with three 180s, a 14-darter and a 103 check-out.

Carl Gauvain had long ago sealed the Division Two title, winning every single match, but Clive White has finally confirmed his Division Three victory after whitewashing Emma Fallaize.
