The Sarnian-Scottish duo came from behind to beat Ireland’s Sandra Bailie and Mark Dawes of Wales 8-10, 9-6, 2-0 at Potters Resorts Hopton-on-Sea’s International Arena.

‘Today I managed to step up a gear from previous rounds. I just wanted to give Paul a chance, hopefully I did enough and he picked up behind me and it came good,’ Merrien said.

‘It’s nice to get over the line and get your hands on a second [mixed pairs title].’

Merrien plays her women’s singles semi-final against Carla Banks today.
