LISTEN: Allen hails possible successor in Domaille

The island’s greatest modern-day striker said it was a somewhat welcome ‘dagger in the heart’ to see the glut of goals from the new generation of GFC cub strikers last week.

In the space of a few days Keene Domaille scored three times, Tim Ap Son marked his debut off the bench with a goal, and Bristol City-bound midfielder Ben Acey also found the net in successive games.

Allen, who has been resting up ahead of this weekend’s Muratti semi-final, where he has an eye on moving closer to the all-time Guernsey scoring record, said that finally there is light at the end of the goalscoring tunnel.

‘I was in the Footes Lane stand on Wednesday night and it was the first time in a long time that I stood there at the side thinking just that... and I said to someone simultaneously “it was a dagger in the heart” that there’s someone in my shirt scoring the goals’.

Listen to Ross Allen talk about GFC's young guns and this weekend's Muratti semi-final and U16 Muratti on the latest GP Football Podcast:

‘But with my coach’s head on and thinking to the future of GFC, it is great that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that someone is stepping up and has got the quality.

‘I always think that little bit extra about someone who is a goalscorer, Keene is someone who has definitely got it. “Faz” is another who has got in to a certain extent, but we haven’t had too many, other than me, that I remember.

'“Crusher” [McGrath], had it but it is not something necessarily we have bred in Guernsey so I am delighted that someone like Keene has taken that step up and seems to be really comfortable. He is showing what he is really good at and showed that he is capable at this level, which is great to see.’
