Rovers crowned Priaulx League champions
THE joyous mood at Port Soif was in stark contrast to the miserable weather last night as Rovers clinched the FNB Priaulx League title.
In wet and windy conditions, the home side secured the three points they needed against Rangers thanks to a 2-0 victory in front of a few dozen diehard fans.
Max Simpson-Cohen eased any blue-and-white nerves by scoring in the sixth minute when he met Martin Savident’s cross from the right with a crisp first-time finish from a narrow angle.
In fairness, Rangers kept Rovers honest throughout the 90 minutes, but Blair Howitt made the game safe when he volleyed home after Sam Hall’s inswinging corner fell to him with 13 minutes remaining.
Rovers will receive the Priaulx Cup at their final league game of the season against Sylvans on Saturday at St Peter’s.
