VALE REC are joining Rovers, North and St Martin’s in the 2023-24 Wheway Cup as a change in format to the competition means the Priaulx League’s top four finishers will now qualify.

The decision was finalised at the Jersey FA’s annual meeting and Rec boss Romeril says that everybody at the club is ‘really pleased’.

‘It is a real positive for us – it gives us more to play for and allows us to test ourselves against the best teams over there as well,’ said the Vale Rec head coach, whose side won the Stranger Cup last season.

‘The club have not been in the competition for a while now, and I have not coached in the Wheway before so it’s definitely exciting. We will not be underestimating it in any way, though.

‘We were a bit disappointed with how it finished last season – we wanted the opportunity to try and get close to Saints’ goal difference but unfortunately Alderney forfeited against us.

‘It’s a great next step for us, as the likes of Rovers, Saints and North do it every year, and we want to be doing that as well.’
