The 23-year-old posted 54.74sec. for fourth against international opposition at the Boysen Memorial, which is a bronze event on World Athletics’ Continental Tour taking place at Oslo’s venerable Bislett Stadium. Bislett is the site of 70 athletics world records.

Having only moved up to regular 400m racing from the shorter sprints this season, Galpin put in a well-paced race and reaped the rewards with a record of her own.

Latvia’s rangy Gunta Vaicule loped to a convincing win in 53.18 but the next two athletes, both young home prospects from Norway, only just got the edge on the Guernsey girl.

‘I’m really happy with the race as it’s the best I’ve executed the 400m this year,’ she said after the 0.22sec. personal best.

‘It was a high-quality event and my first time running in the main program at a Continental Tour Bronze.

‘It was an amazing experience to be able to compete in such an iconic stadium.’

Galpin will now take her strong form to the UK Championships next weekend.
