So far the first complete Games newcomer to be selected for any sport, Sword moved to the island from Scotland in September 2023, and so can see the humour of competing in Guernsey’s green next year.

‘I’m really excited, but I think it’s going to be quite funny, quite controversial my parents were saying – a Scot representing Guernsey in the Scottish islands,’ she said.

On the Guernsey Press Sport Podcast, the up-and-coming triathlete spoke through what is ahead but also the successes that have led her to her current standing in domestic sport.

Sword took top woman not only at the triathlon qualifying event in August but, on either side, the Guernsey Marathon and Granite 100.

This fruitful season concluded with her being selected for Orkney alongside experienced veteran Amy Critchlow, Great Britain competitor Chloe Truffitt, and promising swimmer-turned-triathlete Hannah Kennedy.

‘It’s a great team,’ said a triathlete who also has a background in swimming.

‘I’m already training with Hannah, so that’s great.

‘And it’s just going to be good to gain experience and knowledge from Amy and also Chloe.

‘So it’s going to be really valuable for me to train alongside them and also race alongside them.’

The island’s female triathletes have set a high bar over the last two editions, striking gold in both Gibraltar and Guernsey.

Sword knows that they will have a standard to live up to in the Scottish archipelago.

‘It’s motivation. It’s also a bit of pressure, isn’t it? But then that again turns into motivation itself.

‘So, yeah, that would be awesome to come back with something.

‘I’ve just got to get training and see – hopefully the winter training just helps us get through it all.’
