No fond farewell as the Green Lions fail to roar
The Footes Lane era ended not with a bang, but with a whimper for the Green Lions.

They will be hoping the upcoming move to Victoria Park will bring with it a change in fortune because on Saturday they were well beaten by Ascot United, who were as comfortable as the 4-0 scoreline suggests.
The result put the high-flying visitors just one point off second-placed Kingstonian in Isthmian South Central, but that was little consolation to Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance, who acknowledged that his side were not at the races.
‘It was a poor defeat from us. We were second best in every department with them today,’ he said.
‘They were really hungry for the win. It was an ugly game, horrible game, they made it like that, but also they wanted the second balls, they put the ball in areas and there was always three or four yellow shirts around it.
‘I hate to say they wanted to win more than us, but we were just beaten really convincingly, to be honest.’
Despite the defeat, in which his own side played a big part in their own downfall to keep them in the relegation zone, Vance added that he was happy to be back on the sidelines following his nasty accident in December.
‘This is a reality of where we are, and I actually really enjoy it – it’s quite weird,’ he said.
‘I enjoy the challenge and getting something out of a game when you really don’t deserve anything, you get quite a buzz from it.
‘And that’s where we are. We’ve been there for a few years and we are where we are now. What we’ve got to try and do is scrap like anything, try and get our top players on the ball and get them to be the match winners for us. That’s the kind of challenge I really like.’
