Jersey showed their class as they took the silverware home with them once again thanks to a convincing eight-wicket win at the KGV where the visitors chased down 150 at a canter, requiring just half their allotted overs.
Despite winning the toss and choosing to bat, Guernsey were never really in the game after losing both openers to golden ducks and being reduced to 35 for 4 inside the powerplay, giving them no chance of getting to any sort of total that would have challenged the extremely strong Jersey batting line-up.
‘They played good cricket, and we played terrible cricket,’ said Guernsey captain Ollie Nightingale.
‘We didn’t start well on a flat wicket, and we’re behind the game and then never really got back into the game, to be fair.
‘So credit to them, but we’ve just got to be a lot better.’
Nightingale had no regrets over his decision at the toss, but acknowledged even if his side had doubled their total it might not have been enough.
‘[A score of] 250 would have kept you in the game, I don’t think they would have come out and played the way they did, but even if we got 250, it was a good wicket with a quick outfield and probably wouldn’t have won the game.
‘We’ve just got to be better and learn from it.
‘We’re sort of coming into these games now, expecting to do better and today we’ve not done better at all.’
Jersey debutant George Richardson was player of the match for his five wickets while Harrison Carlyon hit 85 in the reply and their captain Chuggy Perchard called his side’s performance ‘clinical’.
‘To have them two wickets down in the first seven balls was great tone setting by Julius [Sumerauer] and George Richardson, who really impressed today. So it was a terrific start,’ he said.
‘I think four down in the first 10 overs dismissing the danger men, particularly Matt Stokes was a big moment in the game, and from then on, really, it was going to be very difficult for Guernsey to get back into the game.
‘Harrison Carlyon batted beautifully for his 85 and a professional knock from Asa [Tribe] to get us over the line without any issues.’
