And then, as if that was not enough, the up-and-coming Guernsey driver backed that up with a second place in the concluding part of a Brands Hatch double-bill that made up the final weekend of the British Racing & Sports Car Club (BRSCC) Silverlake Citroen DS3 Cup.

The DS3 Cup formed part of the support racing programme at the 54th BRSCC Formula Ford Festival. The festival has for over half a century been the proving ground for countless racing stars, with legendary names like Ayrton Senna, Johnny Herbert and Jenson Button having graced its grids.

Swanson was once again competing for the Race-Car Experiences/FAW Motorsport team in the Fix A Wheel Production Cup, going within a smaller Citroen DS3 field of three.

He had been on the back foot initially after a tough qualifying session where his car was disqualified for being underweight.

With extra weight added for the race, he had to start at the back of the grid and remain stationary for 10sec. after the other competitors had started.

He knew he had to push as hard as he could, while minimising mistakes.

Gaining around a second a lap on the other DS3s, he managed to catch up and overtake them, taking the lead on the very last corner of the race.

‘It was a very tough race, but I am left happy with my result and most definitely my best race to date,’ he said afterwards.

However, he ended up squandering his hard-fought pole position and fastest lap for the second and final race of the weekend when a front wheel strut broke on the car.

He overcame his temptation to retire and kept a reasonable pace for the final laps, just about making it across the line in second.

‘I am more than satisfied with second as I wasn’t even sure if the car would make it another couple laps without retiring,’ he added.

‘With the DS3 Cup season now over, my thoughts turn to next year.’

Over the weekend just gone, Swanson headed back to Donington to resume testing in a Peugoet 308 touring car with the intention to race the car in the 2026 Britcar Endurance Championship.
