United finished sixth in the group stage following an excellent 1-0 away win at Juventus on Wednesday night, with Le Tissier’s England teammate Jess Park scoring the winning goal in the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
It was United’s fourth win in six games in their inaugural foray into the main draw of the competition, which Le Tissier said she had been relishing so far.
It meant they would meet either Atleti or OH Leuven in the play-offs, with the first tie taking place away and the second leg at the Progress with Unity Stadium in Leigh. The matches are due to take place in February.
United have already faced the Spanish capital club in the competition, winning 1-0 in Madrid.
The winners of the tie will face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
‘I’m really, really happy considering some of the teams we’ve played and some of the teams that have finished in the top six,’ said manager Marc Skinner.
‘There’s an incredible history in this sport in the Champions League and we haven’t got that. So we’re creating that and to do that and finish sixth is…I’ve not taken it in yet.’
United are back in action for the final time in 2025 on Sunday when they host Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s League Cup.
