Sam Murray scored his third hat-trick of the season, his second in consecutive games, and there were goals for birthday boy Fin Du Port and Ben Solway as the Green Lions deservedly picked up all three points in their last home game of 2025. The 5-3 victory over Seaford Town left Tony Vance with plenty of Christmas cheer.
‘A 5-3 scoreline would suggest that it was pretty close, but I thought we were really good today,’ said the GFC manager.
‘OK, we should have been clearer than 5-3, but I thought we were good in our performance.
‘I think we could have done that more and been a bit more relentless, but, obviously, ultimately it’s the three points, isn’t it? But really 5-3 probably didn’t do it justice. I thought we were the more dominant team.’
Despite starting the stronger of the two sides, though, the Green Lions had to come from behind to secure the victory after Josh Bradley hit a cracker from 20 yards into the top corner to give Seaford the lead against the run of play.
Du Port, who had earlier required lengthy treatment having taken a nasty blow to the face while challenging for a header, equalised before half-time while other chances went begging for GFC in the opening 45 minutes.
However, they took the lead in the first minute of the second half with Murray’s first goal, before he lobbed the keeper to add a third.
Seaford’s leading scorer Josh Wright got a goal back before Solway headed in a fourth for the hosts and as the game entered injury time Murray could not miss from a couple of yards out to complete his hat-trick.
GFC gifted Seaford a third in the dying moments, but victory had long been assured.
‘Fin’s not looking too pretty at the moment, to be honest, he’s got a big fat lip, but he was very good,’ Vance said.
‘He really deserved his goal, another assist as well, and obviously Sam Murray keeps scoring.
‘Obviously we missed Charlton [Gauvain] today, and I’m sure the scoreline would have been even higher if he’d been playing, but others stepped up.
‘It was a good all round team performance. I thought we dominated the ball, dominated the areas. We scored five goals, but it would be nicer if it had been a little bit clearer than that.’
