GFC extend winning streak with victory at Bexhill

Guernsey FC maintained their perfect record in 2026 with a sixth win from as many Southern Combination Premier Division matches as they won 4-0 away to Bexhill United on Wednesday night.

The win means GFC have closed to within five points of second-placed Steyning Town, with leaders Haywards Heath Town a further three points ahead

On a bobbly and soft pitch at the Polegrove ground, the league’s leading scorer Sam Murray scored twice inside the opening 16 minutes to put the Green Lions in control of the game.

Will Fazakerley had already planted a header against the post before Murray nodded home Fin Patterson’s cross in the 10th minute.

Five minutes later the in-form striker was on hand to tap in from close range after a well-worked free-kick routine saw Charlton Gauvain shape up to shoot from fully 35 yards before slipping a pass through to the overlapping Brandon Wallace who drove into the box and fired goal-wards to cause a bit of chaos in the Bexhill goalmouth.

The ‘Pirates’ came into the game as the first half wore on and there was a scare for GFC when the uneven bounce of the pitch caused Josh Addison to slice a clearance straight to Charlie Scarles, but he put his rushed effort wide.

The second half was largely scrappy but both sides created chances with home goalkeeper Toby Whitehouse denying both Patterson and substitute Si Arnold while Jack Shonk clattered the bar with a long-range free-kick at the other end.

Richie Welsh also hit the woodwork for the Pirates, but GFC eased any nerves when Le Lacheur popped up to score in the 86th minute after Murray’s shot had been spilled by Whitehouse.

Deep into injury time, Wallace placed his shot into the top corner from Le Lacheur’s cut back to add the fourth.

The win means GFC have closed to within five points of second-placed Steyning Town, with leaders Haywards Heath Town a further three points ahead.
