Back in October the Green Lionesses beat this weekend’s opposition 3-0 away, and after last Sunday’s away game was postponed giving them an unscheduled breather, Anna Gauvain’s side are feeling refreshed and ready to hopefully get the job done when bottom-of-the-table Shaftesbury come to Victoria Park tomorrow afternoon.
‘It was disappointing not to have the game on last weekend, but in hindsight it has given the girls a chance to rest,’ said the Guernsey FC Women’s manager.
‘We played them away and beat them 3-0 so the girls are looking forward to it.
‘Every game, teams come up with different players in the squad so it is very much still the unknown as in the UK they have a big pool of players they can bring in, so we never know.’
GFC’s squad continues to be without a few key players, with the biggest differences in the squad from the last time the two sides playing is that Calleigh Hedley and Vicki Rang are both missing.
Heidi Dawber will also be absent from the home team tomorrow.
‘We’re obviously still missing some key players so it’s another very young squad, but they have been training together and we have been seeing some good stuff that we’d like to see in games,’ said Gauvain.
‘Heidi has suffered a small setback with her shin relating to some previous injuries so we are just resting her this week.’
The Green Lionesses are back at home and Gauvain said the support spurs the players on.
‘When things go our way the crowd support us which is great and when things don’t they get behind us and we really need that,’ she said.
GFC Women v Shaftesbury kicks off at 1.30pm tomorrow at Victoria Park.
