Rovers have already secured a semi-final spot but the Island Juniors, Bels and Vale Rec can all still qualify dependent on today’s result.

‘It’s a big game for us, and Bels and Rec as we can all qualify, but we are going in with confidence,’ said U18s manager Leon Meakin.

‘Bels have done well so far in this competition so for us our focus has to be most importantly on winning the game and see where the result takes us.’

Meakin added that he was confident that he would be able to put out a strong squad against Bels.

‘We will have a strong squad. Gil Hunter available as there is obviously no GFC clash, but we will have a mixed squad to keep players ready for when we go away on Sunday to play Moneyfields and we had a trip to York last week,’ said Meakin.

The U18s went to England during half-term for fixtures against York City’s academy and York College. They beat the latter 2-1 but were beaten 6-1 by the York City academy side.

‘It was really good, we had two competitive games,’ said Meakin.

‘Against the academy it was a really close game, a lot closer than the scoreline suggests, we missed a penalty and had a couple of shots cleared off the line.

‘We have a lot to work on, but they can hold their heads high, we had two competitive games in a short space of time.’

During the trip away Meakin said Riley Tyrrell and Aston Young were among the players who impressed.

‘They both played really well, Bertie Beddow as well – he scored against York City academy and Silas Eyton-Jones and Fin Patterson both scored against the college side.’

Tonight’s Stranger Cup group B game between the Guernsey U18s and Bels kicks off 7.45pm at Victoria Park.
