Mitchell and Bisson lead the way in Elite Men's Foursomes Championship qualifier

Defending champion Jack Mitchell and his new playing partner Danny Bisson progressed to the knockout stages of the Guernsey Press Elite Men's Foursomes Championships as top seeds from Sunday's qualifier.

Rory McKenna, a previous winner of the Elite Men's Foursomes with his brother Conor, is through to the knockout stages playing with another former winner in Jeremy Nicolle.

The L'Ancresse Golf Club teammates accumulated an excellent 38 Stableford points off scratch, which even included a 'blob' at the 15th where Bisson found the beach, to finish five points ahead of the field. They will play juniors Alex Mills and Charlie Bowen in the first round of the matchplay.

Pro pairing Jake Lowe and Joe Marshall took second on countback from youngsters Josh Neville and Monty Wyatt with both duos having made 33 points.

Arguably the most intriguing tie of the first round draw sees Jamie Blondel and his regular partner Steve Mahy up against Blondel's son Lewis and Kieran Marley.

The top 16 pairs from the 20 entries go through to the knockout stages, which tee off at 3.30pm on bank holiday Monday at L'Ancresse.
