Allied Coasters has been given a framed certificate from the Arkansas Secretary of State Mark Martin for helping an Arkansas resident when she was visiting the island.

Doris Rutherford was aboard The Norwegian Jade cruise liner on 23 May 2017.

It was the second day of a round-British Isles cruise that had started in Southampton.

During the morning of Ms Rutherford’s visit, a fellow passenger tripped in her cabin, inadvertently injuring Ms Rutherford’s arm.

Notified that the passenger required medical attention, arrangements were made for the injury to be checked at the hospital, where it was discovered Ms Rutherford had broken her arm.

After consideration, the decision was then made for her to be disembarked and make her way back to the US instead of continuing on the cruise.

Along with two friends, she was transported to the Channel Seaways offices where she spent the afternoon, as their team organised hotel accommodation and flights from Guernsey back to the US.

The team were surprised to recently get a visit from two friends of Ms Rutherford holding a package.

Richard Cuthbert, operations manager for Channel Seaways and Alderney Shipping Co, aid they could not believe what they had with them.

‘They came to thank us for helping them to arrange getting home,’ he said.

‘The two of them had booked on the exact same cruise this year as they missed out last year.

‘In the package they were carrying was a Certificate of Appreciation from the Secretary of State for Arkansas awarded to us for helping Arkansas citizens.

‘We were blown away.’
