MBE for former States of Alderney president
ALDERNEY’S former President has been awarded the MBE for his services to the island.
Stuart Trought, pictured, served in the position for eight years between June 2011 and May this year.
‘I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to receive this award,’ he said.
‘It has been a great honour and privilege for me to represent the people of Alderney.’
Mr Trought’s primary job as President was the non-political role of Speaker of the House.
‘Through my time as President I have seen Alderney’s relationships with other jurisdictions improve drastically and this award is a reflection of the respect that Alderney has from those surrounding jurisdictions.’
The island has played host when French, Jersey and Guernsey officials visited. Mr Trought said the island’s relationship with the UK is now strong and there are many connections with the Houses of Parliament and the Ministry of Justice.
‘All of these relationships have helped to put Alderney on the map.
‘It has been particularly rewarding to be voted in by islanders and be able to represent them. I am humbled that they have continued to put their trust in me.
‘I was very surprised when I found out I would be receiving the award and it goes to show the high esteem in which Alderney is held.’
