By-election first of four Alderney polls
BILL ABEL is a new member of the States of Alderney after beating Hilary Bentley in a two-horse by-election race on Saturday.

He replaces David Earl, who resigned halfway through his four-year term.
He polled 321 votes, while she received 205 .
There were 534 voting papers counted, eight were spoiled and the turnout was 36%.
This was the first of four elections to be held in Alderney before Christmas.
The general election for five of the 10 States members is followed by one for President and then the plebiscite to decide on Alderney representatives to sit in the States of Guernsey
