If approved, Traffic and Highway Services will also be installing an additional two charging bays for shared mobility schemes in each location and local provider Evie will be given permits for these new spaces.
‘The number of electric vehicles in Guernsey has more than tripled since 2020, which highlights their increasing popularity and therefore the need to make sure that we have the supporting charging infrastructure in place,’ said head of on-island travel and transport implementation Laura Oxburgh.
‘While people may have charging points at their home, it’s very useful for people to be able to put their car on charge while they’re at work, shopping or meeting someone in Town. We know that these additional spaces are a step in the right direction, but there is more work needed in this space to support the island’s commitment to net zero.’
Shared mobility schemes enable people to rent a car or van by the hour and she said this was a growing trend and provided a much-needed flexible option.
