Deputy has ‘utmost confidence’ in committee colleagues

Another member of the Economic Development Committee has backed the progress being made by the committee in the wake of the departure of member Deputy Haley Camp.

Deputy Camp announced her resignation from the committee on Tuesday, which was immediately countered with positive statements from president Sasha Kazantseva-Miller and member Rhona Humphreys.

Now Deputy Lee Van Katwyk, the fourth member of the committee, has also backed its work while saying he was disappointed to lose Deputy Camp.

‘I am always impressed by Deputy Kazantseva-Miller’s incredible work ethic, drive and leadership,’ he said in a post on social media.

‘Our government has a need for presidents who lead – otherwise, we are just 40 individuals pulling the oars fore and aft.

‘I can categorically state that I have the utmost confidence in all of my committee colleagues. They are only ever concerned with two juxtaposed tensions – how to save money and how to grow the economy.

‘I do not always agree with my colleagues, I do not always vote with my colleagues, but I have faith they are all working hard and working to make their own choices for a better Guernsey.’

Deputy Camp said that she felt sidelined in the committee, unable to make a significant contribution and that she was expected to endorse her president’s agenda.

Economic Development’s newest member Marc Laine was only elected last week to replace Deputy Andy Niles, who had to stand down after he joined the Policy & Resources Committee.
