The BeActive team at the Health Improvement Commission had stationed four new pedal-less bikes in storage boxes across different island parks earlier this month. The bikes are offered on a free, honesty-basis for all youngsters to enjoy over the summer holidays.
But yesterday, the team announced on social media that it was ‘saddened’ to find damage and theft from the weekend, at its Beau Sejour site.
It reported both shed doors broken, one of the bikes missing, the tyres of two other bikes let down, and the provided pens – used for tick sheets to monitor the popularity of the initiative – also gone.
‘We hope at least some of these occurrences are accidental as we really want to be in a position to keep the initiative running over summer,’ it said on Facebook.
Yesterday a volunteer was helping to mend what he could while looking for a permanent fix.
