Robert is ready to take on an even bigger challenge
AFTER winning the Le Pelley Trophy in just his third season of motorsport, Craig Robert admits that his 2014 success has surprised even himself.
The 20-year-old was the comprehensive winner of the Guernsey Kart and Motor Club's annual award that is given based on the margin of class records broken.
Competitors must race in every event – three Le Val des Terres hill climbs, three Vazon sprints and two Alderney events – and go up against their own respective class records.
They get a plus or minus figure for each event against their record and this year, Robert was over nine seconds quicker in total than his Sandrace Saloon Car class marks.
He is delighted to have won the award and is now planning to switch classes for an even bigger new challenge next spring when the 2015 season gets under way.
'I broke my class record at all but one of the events this year, so I knew that I had done well and had a good season overall,' said Robert.
'Next year, I am planning to switch to the modified saloon cars class and I know that record is a lot quicker, so I don't expect to be challenging for this trophy again.'
