Following the 4-1 success over St Clement at JTC Park, Rec coach Andy Bougourd says it is 'good to get that monkey off our backs' in the process.

Rec had marched into the final of the consolation trophy for sides knocked out in the first round of the Le Riche Cup with a fantastic 6-1 semi-final victory over St Peter.

It is Rec's first trophy since they won the Priaulx League back in the 2002-03 season, when Ray Blondel was coach and Trim Morgan was the star.

'We would like to have performed better in both the Stranger final and the FA Cup semi, so it was good to put in this performance on this occasion,' said Bougourd.

'Our 6-1 win over St Peter in the semis was our best performance all season and although you could see this as only a consolation trophy, we still had to beat what was in front of us.

'I felt that we were the standout team in the competition and hopefully this trophy now helps what is a young team we have to kick on next season.'
