Guernsey FC 2, Chipstead 1

LUKE WINCH proved his worth in stunning style as he dug Guernsey FC out of a hole and kept going their building Ryman South momentum.

Sat on the bench again despite a couple of impressive substitute appearances on the road in the last week, Winch would have been as frustrated as every Green Lions fan with what he was forced to watch.

But after a first-half display that did full justice to the words awful, woeful and dreadful, manager Tony Vance had seen enough and made a big half-time double change.

On came Winch and Craig Young, soon to be followed by Jamie Dodd, all of who made an impact as GFC fought back from Robert Webbe's early penalty.

The trio were influential, as were a couple of others who improved as the game wore on, but there was no doubting the star man.

An hour had passed when Winch rifled in a magnificent effort into the roof of the net from a tight angle on the right-hand side and allowed his team to breathe easier again.

That strike came just moments after Ross Allen had squandered his own opportunity to level it by missing handsomely from the penalty spot after Winch had made the chance by being fouled.

If that was not enough, Winch took seniority over Allen at a 20-yard free-kick on 76min. and curled home a beauty to win the game for his side.
